Geosciences
People who study geosciences study the Earth itself
and its past. Some geoscientists focus on keeping the Earth’s environment clean
while others study rocks and water. The different fields of geosciences are
geology, geophysics, and hydrology. All three fields explore the changes in
Earth’s surface and plants in different ways. To prepare for a life in
geosciences, most people need a Master’s degree, state geological surveys, and
federal agencies. Some geosciences jobs require a PhD. The thing that interests
me about this career is the environmental factor. It would be very interesting
and enlightening to learn about the environment and the changes it undergoes.
Meteorology
Meteorologists study the Earth’s atmosphere
and how it affects our planet. Most meteorologists, also known as atmospheric scientists, specialize in
studying the weather. They predict
the weather by studying Earth’s atmosphere. They use satellites in space to
predict weather. To become an atmospheric scientist or meteorologist, a bachelor’s degree in
meteorology is required. Some research jobs require a master’s degree and some
require a PhD. What I find interesting about meteorology is studying the
atmosphere. The atmosphere is something that I have been intrigued by since I
studied earth science freshman year of high school.
